May 29th and 30th twenty-four members of Perth County, its member and partner municipalities will come together at Paramedic Service Headquarters in Stratford for a two day Emergency Operations Centre training session. Building upon its “Together We’re Ready” theme, responders and staff will learn how to effectively coordinate the response to a major emergency.

Facilitator for this course is Suzanne Bernier, who has an interesting background and is author of a book called “Disaster Heroes - Invisible Champions of Help, Hope, and Healing”.  It documents her travels to major disasters documenting some of the real heroes that come together during response and recovery efforts of events such as the 9/11 attacks, Hurricane Katrina, the Chilean mine collapse, the Haiti earthquake, and the Japan tsunami.

Suzanne travels the world presenting at conferences and doing training, and has even had the honor of being a guest speaker at The White House during Federal Emergency Management Agency’s 2016 Individual & Community Preparedness Awards. "This is an example of how our emergency management partnerships and joint training initiatives are delivered in a cost effective and meaningful way to ensure the communities in Perth County are properly prepared. This is especially important this week as we mark Paramedic Services Week " says Chief Linda Rockwood who heads up the County’s Paramedic and Emergency Management programs.

Dave Colvin, Perth County’s Emergency Management Coordinator says "Emergency Management has really changed. It is no longer sufficient to just have a plan on a shelf. We need to work together, build partnerships and share resources such as this training. We’re really excited to have Suzanne here to bring her expertise, experiences and insights to our group.”
